Since Ms. Galatzan made this statement on February 12, the district has been rocked by the following news:

Superintendent Ramon Cortines said “with a remaining budget deficit of $160 million, he has already begun cutting programs for next year.…[he] blamed the budget shortfall on years of what he described as mismanagement and misuse of tax dollars under Deasy.” This in a district where “middle school libraries are still hard hit, with nearly 65 percent of their campus libraries shuttered.”
