Resolution: Community Representation on Charter School Governing Boards
Whereas, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is the largest district charter school authorizer in the nation, overseeing about 320 independent and affiliated charter schools;
Whereas, The District Required Language (DRL) in all charter applications submitted to the LAUSD must include a statement that “The District reserves the right to appoint a single representative to the Charter School governing board pursuant to Education Code section 47604(b).”
Resolved, that the Charter School Division (CSD) is directed to ensure that an LAUSD representative with full voting rights is placed on the Governing Board of each and every charter school authorized by the district.
